The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued a Cyber Alert on Tuesday after receiving an uptick in sextortion scams.
The scammer threatens to send compromising footage and pictures to loved ones unless you send them money through Bitcoin.
TBI says the scam is very convincing because the email can include personal details, such as your full name and a Google image of your home.
To avoid falling victim to this scam, follow these tips:
· Never send compromising images of yourself to anyone, no matter who they are or who they don't say they are.
· Don't open attachments from people you don't know; be wary of opening attachments even from those you know.
· Turn off/cover web cameras when you are not using them.
