TDOT Truck Hit in Thursday Accident on I-24 in Coffee County

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is pleading with drivers to pay attention and slow down. So far this year, our vehicles and equipment have been hit 73 times, 15 of those involving HELP Units.

The most recent happened on Thursday, in Coffee County. A panel truck driver hit a TDOT truck sitting in traffic on I-24. Thankfully, everyone is ok.

State leaders took action last year to make the "Move Over Law" stricter by passing the "Jabari Bailey Highway Safety Act." This requires drivers to change lanes or reduce speed upon approaching any stationary vehicle with its flashing hazards.

The first violation could land drivers with a minimum fine of $250 and up to 30 days in jail.
