Tennessee Considers Statewide Weather Sensor Network to Enhance Emergency Response

Writer: Arnie WheelerArnie Wheeler

Tennessee could soon have weather sensors in every county. With more than 60,000 miles of rivers, creeks, and streams — that can rise fast — the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) is looking to gather more information that could save lives. The $4 million proposal would bring weather stations to every county in Tennessee. The stations would track solar radiation, wind speeds and leaf wetness. If Governor Bill Lee decides to move forward with the funding, Tennessee’s legislature must approve.
