Tullahoma High School had 14 students travel to Chattanooga last week to compete at the Health Occupations Students of America State Leadership Conference in Chattanooga, with two individuals earning their way to nationals.
Nafolit Shiferaw and Xavier Farrell teamed up to secure their seats at the HOSA International Leadership Conference this summer after finishing second in Medica IInnovation. During the competition, Shiferaw and Farrell designed and created a NutriSmart Pod to help make pharmaceutical dosing safer. The NutriSmart Pod would connect with a partnered app to work together to dose a tailored amount of any given medication to ensure patient safety is a priority.
“At the State Leadership Conference, they presented information and visual aids, along with a product demo to a panel of judges and competed against 25 other teams from around the state,” said THS HOSA Advisor Katie Alderman. “I am so proud of Nafolit and Xavier for all their work and presentation.” Shiferaw and Farrell won’t have to travel far to participate in the HOSA International Leadership Conference, as it will take place June 18-21 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville.
THS had 12 other students compete in several events, including Occupational Therapy, Family Medical Physician, Health Education, Healthy Lifestyle, Health Career Exploration and Medical Innovation. These students also attended academy sessions and visited with representatives from dozens of colleges around the state.
“I am so proud of these students for the work they put into preparing for their events,” Alderman said. “Each of our HOSA members represented Tullahoma High School well this week in Chattanooga.”
