Exciting news for a local golfer. Tullahoma’s Jay Potter has qualified to compete in the 44th U.S. Senior Open Championship.
Potter, an amateur earned his spot in the tournament by shooting a 4-under 68 in a qualifying event in Oak Ridge, TN. Eric Axley won the tournament with an 8-under 64. They were the only two to earn spots into the U.S. Senior Open Championship. MLB legendary pitcher John Smoltz was one shot short, shooting 3-under par.
Eleven champions, including two-time winner and defending champion Bernhard Langer, are among the players that will play in the Championship. The U.S. Senior Open will be played for the first time at Newport (R.I.) Country Club, from June 27-30. Peacock, Gold Channel and NBC will provide TV coverage.
