Tullahoma High School recognized as Naval Honor School

Tullahoma High School’s JROTC program received a high merit Wednesday morning as THS was informed that it is now officially designated as a Naval Honor School. This designation comes from Benjamin T. Watson, the Commanding General of the Marine Corps Training and Education Command, and recognizes the Tullahoma High School JROTC program’s successes during the 2023-2024 school year. The honor is based on community service hours, cadet involvement in school activities, academic and scholarship awards, and team accomplishments. The nation’s top 20 percent of programs are selected for the Naval Honor School distinction. “The Tullahoma High School JROTC program has been an invaluable asset to our school and community for over two decades,” said THS Principal Dr. Greg English. “The program has had an undeniably positive impact on the students who have chosen to participate in JROTC and has opened up many opportunities that previously weren't available. Having personally witnessed the high standards Colonel Johnson and Major Chandler have for themselves, their cadets, and the program. I'm extremely proud that THS has been recognized as a Naval Honor School.” As a Naval Honor School, Tullahoma High School, under the direction of Retired Colonel J.J. Johnson, will now be able to nominate cadets to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and the Military Academy at West Point. Seniors in the Tullahoma JROTC program can receive recommendations from Colonel J.J. Johnson and Major Nathan Chandler, and those carry the same weight as recommendations from U.S. state senators and congress members. “What an extraordinary honor this is for our THS cadets, their instructors, Tullahoma High School, and the JROTC Program,” said TCS Director of Schools, Dr. Catherine Stephens. “I am constantly amazed by our cadets, their dedicated instructors, and the JROTC program’s commitment to service, excellence and pride in all they do. I’m so very proud of everyone involved for this much-deserved honor that will benefit students now and in the future.”
