According to new data released by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD), annual seasonal changes in employment, such as school breaks, caused Tennessee’s county unemployment numbers to increase in June.
Unlike the statewide unemployment rate, which is at an all-time low in Tennessee, county unemployment rates are not adjusted to account for seasonal impacts.
June’s data showed that unemployment rates increased in each of Tennessee’s 95 counties during the month. Eighty-two counties had unemployment rates of less than 5% in June, while the remaining 13 counties had rates of 5% or greater but less than 10%.
Area county unemployment rates:
Bedford: 2.9% in May, 3.8 in June
Coffee: 2.9% in May to 3.7% in June
Franklin: 3% in May to 3.8 in June
Grundy: 3.7% for May and 5% in June
Lincoln: 2.6% in May and up to 4% in June
Moore: 2.2% in May, 3.1 in June
Warren: 3.3% in May and rising to 4.5%
