MCMINNVILLE, TN (April 23, 2025) – In conjunction with First Responder Safety and Work Zone Awareness Week, the Warren County Sheriff's Department is issuing a reminder to all motorists regarding Tennessee's "Move Over" law. This critical law is in place to protect emergency responders and road workers who are often operating in hazardous conditions along the side of roadways.
Sheriff's officials urge drivers to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings. When approaching emergency vehicles – such as law enforcement cars, fire trucks, and ambulances – or construction and maintenance vehicles with flashing lights, drivers are required to move over into an adjacent lane when it is safe to do so.
If moving over is not possible due to traffic conditions or other factors, the law mandates that drivers reduce their speed and proceed with extreme caution. This measure provides a safer environment for the men and women who are dedicated to protecting and serving our community.
The Warren County Sheriff's Department encourages all drivers to familiarize themselves with the "Move Over" law and to make it a practice every time they encounter emergency personnel or work zones on the side of the road. Your awareness and cooperation can save lives.
