The Tullahoma Wildcats held off a second half rally from Stone Memorial to advance to the Region 4-3A tournament final Tuesday night at Cookeville High School.
In a game that was a tale of two halves the Wildcats jumped out to a 21-15 lead after one on a pair of made threes from Khani Johnson and the post play of Austin Tinnon. The Wildcats then flexed their muscle in the second quarter outscoring the Panthers 22-10 to build an 18 point lead at the half.
As it turned out Tullahoma needed all of the lead they had built. With the shots and the whistle falling in the favor of Stone Memorial in the second half the Wildcats were outscored 30-18 over the final 16 minutes however a baseline basket and three made free throws from Lucas Price in the final two minutes of the game secured a 61-55 victory for the Cats.
Xavier Farrel paced Tullahoma with 19 points, the post duo of Tinnon and Jayden Thompson added nine points each and Johnson and Price totaled 8 each.
Cade Caps turned in an enormous second half to fuel the Stone Memorial comeback finishing with a game high 31 points. Jack Cordell also finished in double figures with 12 points.
The Wildcats will face Upperman, who rolled past Giles County 54-33 for the region championship and a home sectional game Thursday at 7:00 at Cookeville High School. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 93.9 The Duck.
