Raiders stay Unbeaten in Region Play

Friday night football action at Carden-Jarrell saw the Coffee County Red Raiders hosting the Lebanon Blue Devils in a key Region 3 Class 6A matchup.

Lebanon got things started early as Anthony Crowell returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown 88 yards for a score.

Coffee County answered back with a nice drive that finished with a Konor Heaton 33-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 7 with 9:25 remaining in the first quarter.

The Blue Devils got the ball back and drove right at the Raider defense, but after a penalty stalled the momentum, they settled for a Sean Redmond 30-yard FG. With 5:21 left in the 1st Lebanon led 10-7. The rest of the first half was a defensive battle as the score remained 10-7 at the half.

Lebanon got the offense going again in the 3rd when Sean Heath scored on a 2-yard run and with 9:34 to go in the quarter it was 17-7 Blue Devils.

After Coffee County got the ball back the offensive line helped push the Raiders down the field and QB Cole Pippenger cut the lead down to 3 with 4:58 left in the 3rd.

Lebanon would strike again when QB Jaylen Abston hooked up with Mason Tisdale on 34-yard TD pass. The extra point was blocked and with 9:37 remaining in the game the Blue Devils led 23-14.

Strong defensive play and an offense that mixed the run and pass beautifully as Coffee County came roaring from behind. First Pippenger hit Jahlin Osbourne on a great throw and Oz broke a tackle at the 20 and rumbled into the endzone for a 51-yard TD. This cut the Lebanon lead to 27-23 with 7:46 to go in the 4th.

On their next drive the Blue Devils could only take 28 seconds off the clock before punting the ball back to the Red Raiders.

The Coffee County offense worked hard to set up a 1-yard diving touchdown run by Heaton. This gave the Raiders their only lead of the night 27-23 with :50 second remaining and that scored held up to give Coffee County the region win.

The Red Raider offensive line played a great game and were named the Rooster 101.5 Players of the Game. Starters: Center Darryn Strickland, RG Jathan Cassel, RT Javon Simmons, LG Colby McCormick, LT Robbie Gilley and TE Jahlin Osbourne.
