Coffee County built a five-run lead by the third inning and then held off Warren County for a 5-3 District 6-4A baseball tournament win on Saturday afternoon. Warren County scored three runs on a double in the 7th inning but got no closer.
After Brady Nugent singled in the 1st catcher Caleb Moran drilled a homerun to rightfield to give Raiders the 2-0 advantage.
The Pioneers were in scoring position in the 2nd. Aiden Kuykendall was on 2nd base and Jax King singled to left and Kuykendall attempted to score but was cut down at the plate on a great throw. Coffee County leftfielder Dayne Crosslin threw a terrific ball to home and Moran applied a great tag to stop the Warren County threat.
Coffee County got more runs in the third inning led by Jacob Holder and Aiden Robertson, all driving in runs in the inning.
Robertson got the win for the Raiders and Brady Nugent picked up the save. Layne Roberts took the loss for the Pioneers.
Coffee County had nine hits in the game. Robertson and Moran had two hits and two RBI each to lead the way.
The Franklin County vs Shelbyville game was postponed just prior to the teams taking the field. They will play at 4:30 p.m. Monday with loser playing Warren County at 7 p.m. The Raiders are off until Tuesday when they take on the winner of Franklin County and Shelbyville at 4:30 p.m.
