Scam Warning from Manchester Police

We have a warning about a scam that is taking place in the area.

Manchester Police Assistant Chief Adam Floied says that scammers are calling local citizens posing as a Manchester officer. Floied says the caller gives the actual name of a current officer and tells the intended victim that there is a warrant for their arrest. The scammer informs the victim to call a number and the phone is answered by someone giving an officer’s name. One local resident received a call from someone claiming to be Sergeant Devin Deford. Deford is a captain at the department.

The scammers are wanting the intended victims to pay money to take care of the warrant.

Floied says this is a scam and no law enforcement will ask you to pay something over the phone. Please do not fall for this attempt to steal your money.

If you receive a phone call like this, call the actual police department phone number to report it. The Manchester Police Department can be reached at 931-728-2099. Remember scammers can spoof phone numbers to make you feel like the call is real. It is best to hang up and call law enforcement yourself.
