Shelbyville baseball picks up win versus Franklin County

Shelbyville Golden Eagles snatched the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over Franklin County on Wednesday. The game was tied at five with Shelbyville batting in the top of the seventh when Caden Thomas was struck by a pitch, driving in a run. 

Shelbyville Golden Eagles earned the victory despite allowing Franklin County to score three runs in the second inning. The offensive firepower by Franklin County was led by Dylan Grimes and McKeon Whittsett, all driving in runs in the inning. 

Franklin County took an early lead in the second inning. Grimes drove in two when Grimes singled. 

Aiden Edwards was the winning pitcher for Shelbyville. The righthander allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out four and walking zero. Brady O’Neal threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. 

Gattis Henley took the loss for Franklin County. Henley surrendered four runs on eight hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out nine and walking one. 

Payton Miller started the game for Franklin County. The bulldog allowed two hits and two runs over one-third of an inning, striking out one AJ Parker started the game for Shelbyville. The righty surrendered five runs on four hits over four and a third innings, striking out two 

Shelbyville Golden Eagles totaled ten hits in the game. Kyler Trice, Thomas, and Griffin Williams each had multiple hits for Shelbyville. Trice led Shelbyville with three hits in three at bats. 

Henley went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Franklin County in hits. Henley led Franklin County with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with ten stolen bases. Franklin County didn’t commit a single error in the field. Gavin Hill had 12 chances in the field, the most on the team.
