At around 8:15 Saturday morning Monteagle Police responded to a shots fired call at the Marathon Store at Exit 135. Police found a female victim inside that had been shot in the stomach. As the woman received medical attention law enforcement began looking for the person responsible.
As officers were searching, they found the body of the person they believed did the shooting dead from what appeared to be self-inflicted gun-shot wound about 250 yards away from the initial scene under a flatbed trailer.
At last report, the female had surgery in a Chattanooga hospital and was listed in stable condition. No names have been given at this time.
