The Coffee County Lady Raiders are back in the Spring Fling. In a game heard live on The Rooster 101.5, the ladies defeated the Soddy Daisy Lady Trojans 2-1 on Friday.
One of Coffee County’s smallest players stepped up BIG on Friday. Olivia Evans has led the team in batting average almost all season, hitting over .500 on the season. Speed and base hits is Evans’ game. With the game tied at 7 in the top of the 7th inning the lefthanded hitting Evans sliced a ball down the leftfield line that the Trojan outfielder could not make a play on and the ball found its way all the way in the deep left corner of the field. Evans showed off her fantastic speed as she hit her first homerun of the year, an inside the park homer to give Coffee County the 2-1 lead.
Keri Munn who struck out 12 on the night was to shut the door on Soddy Daisy in the bottom of the 7th to send the Lady Raider to the TSSAA state tournament and a chance at a state championship. Munn also had 2 hits and an RBI.
Coffee County’s first game of the state tournament will be Tuesday afternoon at approximately 5:30 PM. You can hear the action between the Lady Raiders (30-5-1) and Collierville (28-5) on The Rooster 101.5 FM.
In a side note: Coffee County assistant coach Jon Spears told Rooster 101.5 earlier in the season how exciting it would be to go to the state tournament as a coach. Spears has been a head coach in baseball and an assistant in various other sports at Coffee County but has never been to a state tournament as a coach. Well coach, welcome to the Spring Fling State Tournament, enjoy the ride.
