Tennessee Releases New Plan for Calculating Active Cases of COVID-19; Numbers Drop Drastically

The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed additional cases and deaths related to COVID-19 across the state on Thursday, September 3.

The health department reported 1,715 new cases, bringing the state to 159,546 total cases.

TDH also confirmed 18 additional deaths, bringing Tennessee up to 1,815 total deaths.

On Sept. 3, the Tennessee Department of Health announced it will no longer report “recovered” cases. Instead it will now be reported as “Inactive/Recovered” cases. “Inactive/Recovered” cases will include cases who are 14 days or more beyond their illness onset date (or, for asymptomatic individuals, their specimen collection date) and who are not deceased. Currently Tennessee reports 141,568 inactive/recovered patients. This new process will drastically reduce the active cases in each county.

*Bedford County: 14 died; 1,143 confirmed/probable cases; 94 active cases

*Cannon County: 0 died; 216 confirmed/probable cases; 36 active cases

*Coffee County: 6 died: 783 confirmed/probable cases; 114 active cases

*Franklin County: 4 died; 567 confirmed/probable; 125 active cases.

*Grundy County: 3 died; 153 confirmed/probable; 13 active cases

*Lincoln County: 1 died; 432 confirmed/probable; 42 active cases.

*Moore County: 1 died; 115 confirmed/probable; 15 active cases.

*Rutherford County: 73 died; 8,018 confirmed/probable; 508 active cases.
