Coffee County Democratic Party Caucus to Select Candidate for County Mayor is May 25

After the untimely death of Coffee County Mayor Judd Matheny, a lot of talk has been about who will serve or be elected to serve out his term. Matheny’s would have expired on September 1, 2026.

Republican and Democratic parties plan on caucusing for candidates for the Coffee County Mayor position.

The Coffee County Democratic Party will hold its caucus on May 25th at 10 a.m. at the Lonnie Norman Pavilion, next to Ninja Warrior Park.

The Republican announced earlier that their caucus is planned for May 23 at Coffee County High School.

An independent candidate will have to qualify by June 7. The election will be held on August 1.

Currently, Dennis Hunt is serving as interim Mayor and says he will seek the Republican nomination.
