The Coffee County Lady Raiders were playing with heavy hearts as they took on Blackman in Murfreesboro on Friday.
On Friday morning, assistant coach Matt Vinson’s dad and Lady Raider junior Olivia Vinson’s grandfather passed away. Legendary coach Joel Vinson was a fantastic coach and teacher in Manchester for many years. The gym at Westwood Middle School is named in his honor.
Coffee County blitzed the Blaze in a runaway 56-34 win. The Lady Raiders are still playing with star junior post Channah Gannon, who had surgery on her injured ankle. Her replacement, Nakayjah Holman, decided to leave the program.
Natalie Barnes led the way with 19 points. Vinson scored 14, and Jules Ferrell added 10.
In the boys’ contest, Blackman was able to get by the Red Raiders in a hard-fought game, 43-40.
Cooper Reed had another solid game as he led Coffee County with 16 points, followed by Jackson Shemwell’s 10, and Cayden Trail scored 9.
On Saturday afternoon, Coffee County hosted Ravenwood Raptors at “The Patch” inside CCCHS.
The Lady Raiders dominated Ravenwood to improve to 10-1, outscoring the Raptors 72-30.
Sophomore Natalie Barnes led the way again with 25. Freshman Jules Ferrell continued to impress, scoring 17-point, and new starter Audri Patton hit double-figures with 10. Oliva Vinson added 9 in the win.
The Ravewood boys had not lost a game coming into the contest against the Raiders and were able to continue their early season run with a 62-45 win over the Raiders.
Cooper Reed led Coffee County again in scoring with 16 points.
