Due to excessive rainfall, the City of Manchester sewer system is experiencing several overflows. These areas include…
Skinner Flat Road
Spring Street Bridge
Dave King Park (near the railroad bridge)
The public can also help by ensuring that your sewer clean-out caps are in place and not broken or missing. These are often hit by lawnmowers and neglected to be repaired. The city has experienced some homeowners removing them to allow the water in their yard to drain into the sewer. Please note that this is a direct violation of city codes. No stormwater is purposefully allowed to enter the sanitary sewer system. This also includes roof downspouts, parking lot drains, etc.
If you have any questions concerning this or know of a potential related problem, please get in touch with the Manchester Water & Sewer Department at 728-1273.
Discharges from these overflows consist, or likely consist, of untreated or partially treated sewage and waste. The public is advised to avoid contact with impacted water bodies for 48 hours after the discharge or overflow ceases due to increased health risks from bacteria and other pollutants.
