Coffee County Receives Grant for Food Insecurity

Coffee County Government has been awarded a $500,000 Food Insecurity Grant. There will be four recipients: Unity Medical Center $254,198, The Storehouse $150,000, The Henry Center $10,000, First Christian Church $9,919, and the South-Central Tennessee Development District $20,000 for grant administration.

$55.883 remains in a contingency account with SCTTDD and will possibly be awarded in some fashion to the existing grantees once monies are dispersed per the current awards and examined again by SCTDD.

The USDA defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for every person in a household to live an active, healthy life. This can be a temporary situation for a family or can last a long time. Food insecurity is one way we measure how many people can’t afford food.
