On Monday, April 8th, at approximately 10 am, Grundy County High School was placed on lockdown. This was due to suspicion that a student had a gun on campus. This prompted a verbal exchange between students in the hallway during a class change. All students, faculty, and staff at GCHS were immediately placed in lockdown.
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene at the request of the high school SRO. After a joint investigation by the sheriff’s office and school personnel, the building was found to be secure, and the lockdown was lifted.
All threats are taken seriously by both Grundy County Schools and the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department. Both departments will continue to take swift action to maintain a safe environment throughout the district.
