Warren County Sheriff Jackie Matheny has announced the implementation of a litter pick-up program. Sheriff Matheny approached County Executive Terry Bell and General Sessions Judge Ryan J. Moore about the idea of litter pickup on the roads and highways of the county after driving throughout the county and observing the unacceptable amount of trash that has been thrown out on roadways.
The Sheriff’s Office will supervise the program and will utilize jail trustees, as well as those who have been convicted of DUI and ordered to perform 24 hours of community service work as a part of their sentence. The litter pick-up will be on Saturdays and will cover all parts of the county. This program will be in addition to the Warren County Sanitation Department’s grant-funded litter pick-up program.
Judge Moore would like to eventually expand the program to include those convicted of other non-violent offenses, where community service is ordered.
Sheriff Matheny, County Executive Bell, and Judge Moore join together in hoping that this program will also bring awareness to our community regarding the proper disposal of trash. Their message is in unison: “We live in one of the most beautiful counties in Tennessee, and we should all be responsible for how we dispose of our trash.”
