School bus drivers in Franklin County did not report to work on Tuesday morning. This left many parents scrambling to get their children to school. Over 650 students were absent throughout the county on Tuesday.
The county commission voted to not approve the school board’s budget on Monday night, which included a raise for the drivers.
The sticking point in the proposed budget was not the raise for bus drivers but a new $4 million activity center the school system wants to build at Franklin County High School.
The school system has around 5,000 students at 11 schools in the county. Some of the buses did run on Tuesday afternoon.
