Several citizens have contacted the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office regarding receipt of emails that look like they are from the Social Security Administration.
The letter states that your Social Security number has been compromised, your number has been suspended, and a legal complaint has been filed against you.
This is a scam and another attempt to gain personal information and defraud people out of money or steal their identity. Please do not contact numbers or emails that are sent in this fashion. If you receive any correspondence from a government office, state, local, or federal, look up their official number from a reliable source and call to verify the legitimacy of the correspondence.
