Coffee County Head Football Coach Doug Greene has resigned, effective immediately.
The athletic department thanked Coach Greene for his dedication to the program. He will continue to teach at the high school.
Greene told On Target Sports that he needed to step down at this time in life to concentrate more on his health. He said he was very proud of his players and coaches for doing a tremendous job on and off the field. Greene added that it made him very happy to see the fan support the team had built and wished the program the rest of the season and coming years.
Under Greene, the Raiders improved from 2 wins in 2019, 4-6 in 2020, 5-6 in 2021, 9-3 in 2022 and 1-1 this year. The team won its first-ever playoff game last season.
Defensive Coordinator Roger Haynes will oversee the football team for the remainder of the season. Haynes served as head coach last year for two games in Greene’s absence. Haynes has an extensive resume of coaching experience, including head coaching positions at various schools in Alabama.
Before Coach Greene resigned on Thursday, he was on hand to present The Rooster 101.5 and Giles Dunn Diamond Company players of the week for games one and two to Blayne Myers and Tyler Smith. He said it was his last act as head coach for the Red Raiders. (see picture above)
