Hotly Contested Issue Planned for Tuesday’s Coffee County Commission Meeting

A hot topic will be discussed during Tuesday’s upcoming Coffee County Commission meeting.

Coffee County Mayor Judd Matheny wants to remove five members of the Coffee County Planning Commission, and those members are fighting back.

Matheny wants to remove Chairman Steve Cunningham and members Carole Willis, Randy Harrell, Dennis Hunt, and Paul Elam “for cause.”

A hearing is planned for Tuesday, November 14, 2023, before the full Coffee County Commission.

A letter from the County Mayor Matheny states that proof will be presented that the members are deficient for failing to satisfy the requirements for their continued service on the planning commission.

Members state they have attended the required training and will argue their case on Tuesday.
