On Friday, July 28, 2023, just before 5 PM, a Decherd Police officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding at 82mph in a 55mph zone on Hwy 64W near Blue Spring Rd. The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated to speeds of 120mph.

The officer got in front of the vehicle and attempted to slow the car down. The vehicle’s driver allegedly tried to hit the Decherd officer’s vehicle. Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office were nearby and quickly joined in the pursuit. The Decherd officer and deputies attempted to box in the car again, and the driver almost struck the Decherd patrol unit.

The pursuit continued near the Interstate 24 overpass in Pelham, where Franklin County Deputies attempted a PIT maneuver and were able to get the vehicle stopped. The driver of the Toyota could take off again, striking the Decherd officer’s car. Another PIT maneuver was attempted and was successful when the vehicle tried to merge onto I-24.

Luis Donaldo Camposeco Pascual was taken into custody and charged with Speeding, Reckless Driving, Felony Evading Arrest, Driving Under the Influence, Open Container, No Driver’s License, and Aggravated Assault. He is currently being held on a $75,000 bond.
