Raiders and Lady Raiders Win Games on Thursday Night

Thursday night in high school baseball, Shelbyville jumped to a 4-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings. Coffee County chipped away to finally grab an 8-5 advantage in the bottom of the 5th. The Red Raiders held onto the three-run lead for the District 9-AAAA win.

Blake Hillis and Bird Fellers each had two hits. Colter Neel had a two-run double to help lead the offense.

Cole Pippenger walked two batters and hit another in the 6th inning, but like a magician, he worked out of trouble without allowing a run. If the 7th, Pippenger would strike out the side to pick up the save. Fellers, who pitched in relief, got the win. Pippenger was named the Dr Jay Trussler/Rooster 101.5 Player of the Game.

The Raiders will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Franklin County. Gametime is at 1 PM.

Coffee County received several gifts from the home-standing Cascade Lady Champions in softball on Thursday. Those gifts were 11 walks issued in the first inning as the Lady Raiders scored 14 times. Because of the run rule, they would go on to win 16-0 in just three innings.

Kara Wheeler had two hits, three RBI, and scored twice. Paisley Campbell also had two hits and three RBI. Madison Pruitt managed a triple, three RBI, and two runs. Willow Carden added a double and an RBI and scored three times.

Lily Norman was the winning pitcher. She threw the first two innings, allowed just one hit, and struck out four. Kaylee Buckley threw the final inning, giving up just one hit, and had one strikeout.

The Lady Raiders will host Tullahoma on Sunday afternoon at 3. You can listen to the game on The Rooster 101.5, www.rooster1015.com, or the Rooster 101.5 app.
