As you heard on The Rooster 101.5 Friday night, the Coffee County Red Raiders hosted Rockvale in a region game.
Early in the contest, it looked like the Raiders might grab a 3-0 lead, but the field goal was blocked, and Rocket Malik Hicks blocked the attempt, recovered the ball, and went 60 yards to put Rockvale up 7-0.
Senior Xavier Randolph blocked a Rockvale punt and traveled down the sideline but dropped the ball as it appeared he was headed for a touchdown. Randolph recovered the ball, but two plays later, Rocket DJ Thornton picked up Caiden Martin’s fumble and went 86 yards for a Rockvale TD to make it 14-0. The Rockets would later score on a 4th down play, making the halftime score 21-0.
Rockvale would put ten more points on the board in the second half to make it 31-0, and the 30-point mercy rule was enforced.
With a little over 3 minutes remaining in the game, Caiden Martin returned a kickoff to inside Rockvale’s 15-yard line to go in the game. A couple of plays later, Martin would get the call and rush into the endzone from 7 yards out. The touchdown would stop a scoreless streak (3 games) that stretched back to the third game of the season against Shelbyville.
Xavier Randolph, for his blocked punt and solid play on defense, was named the Giles Dunn Diamond Company, Rooster 101.5 Player of the Game for the Raiders.
Coffee County (1-6) is off this week before traveling to second-ranked Oakland (5-2) on October 13.
