Because of predicted weather, the Coffee County Red Raiders traveled to Spring Hill for doubleheader baseball action on Monday night.
In game one the teams were tied 8-8 and playing in the bottom of the 9th inning when Spring Hill’s Bryson Jones hit a walk-off solo home run to win it for the home team.
In the top of the 7th, Coffee County was trailing 8-5, and that’s when Colter Neel stepped to the plate and blasted a 3-run homer to send the game to extra innings. Neel finished the game with two hits, two runs, and three RBI.
In game two, the Red Raider bats never got going against the solid pitching of Spring Hill. Coffee County managed three hits in the late-night game. Spring Hill won the nightcap 5-3. Trey Turner was credited with the team’s only RBI. The game ended just shy of midnight.
Cole Pippenger connected for singles and scored the only two runs. Trevor Jesse had the other hit for the Red Raiders.
This was the first two losses for Coffee County in District 9-AAAA play, falling to 4-2 and 10-9-1 overall. They’ll be back on the diamond at Powers Field in Manchester on Friday as they host Tullahoma (14-6) starting at 6 PM. The Raiders and Wildcats will also play on Saturday night in Tullahoma, also at 6 PM. You can hear Friday’s game on The Rooster 101.5 and Saturday’s game on 93.9 The Duck.
