Coffee County High School Monday Sports Action

Coffee County Red Raiders took home a 7-2 victory over Shelbyville in District 6 Class 4-A play on Monday.

Coffee County scored twice in the second inning and one in the fourth and held a 3-2 lead going into the seventh inning.

The Red Raiders tallied four runs in the seventh inning. Aiden Robertson tripled to start the inning, and after multiple walks and two errors, Coffee County jumped ahead 7-2. Nate Rutledge, Brendon Sheppard, Blake Hillis, and Caleb Moran had RBIs in the inning.

Robertson was the winning pitcher for Coffee County. The outstanding senior righthander lasted six and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out 14. Cole Pippenger threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Robertson came out of the game due to his pitch count.

Palmer Edwards took the loss for the Shelbyville Golden Eagles. The pitcher surrendered four runs on five hits over six innings, striking out seven and walking one.

The Red Raiders tallied five hits on the day, and Carter McKenzie and Robertson had two hits each for Coffee County Central Varsity Red Raiders.

Coffee County, the regular season district champs (14-8/10-1), will host Shelbyville (13-15/5-6) on Tuesday at Powers Field in Manchester at 6 PM.

In lady’s softball on Monday, the #1 team in the state, the Green Hill Lady Hawks, hosted Class 4-A’s 4th-ranked team, the Coffee County Lady Raiders.

Both teams were strong in the pitcher’s circle, but Green Hill (33-3) was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Coffee County.

Sophia Waters was the winning pitcher for Green Hill as she pitched a no-hitter while striking out ten.

Kaitlyn Davis took the loss for the Lady Raiders. Davis allowed seven hits and three unearned runs over six innings, striking out seven.

Next up for Coffee County (16-7) will be a district matchup against Shelbyville. On Thursday, the Lady Raiders will travel to Franklin County for district play on Thursday and on Sunday, in non-district action, Coffee County will play host to Tullahoma.
