Bedford County Mayor Chad Graham attended the Monday, March 18, quarterly Bedford County Historical Society meeting to present a proclamation recognizing and congratulating the organization on its 50th anniversary. Graham explained the declaration to the Historical Society President Al Simmons.
The society publishes the Bedford County Historical Quarterly and various special publications about county history. It also annually presents the Richard Poplin Memorial History Award to local students. Over the years, over $50,000 has been given to Poplin Award recipients. The society also supports the history room of Shelbyville-Bedford County Public Library.
The society meets quarterly in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church on the Shelbyville square.
