Ryan Blaney in the #12 Ford Mustang barely got across the finish line ahead of Ricky Stenhouse Jr to win Monday’s NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500 at Talledega Superspeedway. Jockeying for position and trying to save fuel at the end were Kevin Harvick, Jimmy Johnson, Blaney, Alex Bowman, Bubba Wallace and others, but Blaney chased down Harvick who had taken the lead following Jimmy Johnson’s crash which brought out a late caution, then held off Eric Jones thru the tri-oval on the last lap to get his nose to the stripe First and take the checkered flag. It was Blaney’s second consecutive win at Talledega.
NASCAR’s Cup drivers will race twice next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, at Pocono.
