Friday and Saturday, the Coffee County Lady Raiders competed in the ‘Border Battle’ softball tournament in Fayetteville.
In Friday’s first game, Coffee County defeated Stewarts Creek 3-2 behind Lily Norman’s outstanding pitching and a solo home run by Jalyn Moran, her fifth of the season.
The Lady Raiders lost 5-0 to the Forest Rockets in game two. Maggie Montgomery had the only two hits for Coffee County.
In Saturday’s first game, the Lady Raiders dropped their matchup with Ardmore, AL, 8-1.
Taylor McBride started at catcher and had an RBI single at the plate.
In game two, Coffee County used mostly its JV team against Giles County. The Lady Bobcats won 8-0.
Cara Newlin started in left field for the Lady Raiders and had the only hit for Coffee County.
On Sunday, the Lady Raiders were back in action in Lincoln County for a District 9-AAAA game, and things didn’t go well for Coffee County. Lincoln County had 13 hits and 15 runs as they took over the district standings lead in a 15-1 win.
The Lady Falcon bats were red-hot. They had three home runs, two of which came from Hallie Meeks: a three-run shot and a grand slam. Winning pitcher Mia Brown also homered.
The Lady Raiders had three base runners in the game. Jalyn Moran was hit by a pitch, and Pasiley Campbell and Savannah Cooper reached on errors in the fourth inning. An error on a ground ball by Cooper allowed Campbell to score.
Coffee County is now 14-9 overall and 6-1 in district play. Lincoln County improved to 22-9 overall and 7-0 in district play. The two teams will play again on Monday, but this time at Terry Floyd Field in Manchester. It’s Senior Night for the Lady Raiders, with activities beginning at 6 PM and game time set for 6:30 PM. Coffee County baseball is also in action on Monday as they host Columbia in District 9-AAAA play at Powers Field.
