The District 9-AAAA part of the basketball season got underway on Tuesday night for Coffee County as they hosted Shelbyville.
First, in the girls’ game, the Lady Raiders held off a tough Eaglettes squad 73-61 to improve to 17-3 overall and 1-0 in district play. Shelbyville fell to 11-5/0-1.

Dr Jay Trussler Co-Players of the Game Olivia Vinson and Natalie Barnes led the Lady Raiders with 22 each. Jules Ferrell finished with 13 points, and Ava McIntosh added 9.
Paige Blackburn’s 24 led Shelbyville and Lilly Brown 15 points.
In boys’ play, Coffee County and Shelbyville played a hard-fought, low-scoring game at “The Patch” in Manchester.

The Dr Jay Trussler Players of the Game for Coffee County was Jackson Shemwell, who had 13 points, going 9-11 at the free-throw line. Brady Wright added 8 points.
The Raiders are now 7-9 overall and 1-0 in District 9-AAAA play. The Eagles dropped to 4-13 overall and 0-1 in the district.
On Friday night, Coffee County travels to Columbia, and Shelbyville will host Warren County.
