Cubs Can’t Hold Up Against Rockies
Cubs had trouble keeping up with the Rockies in a 12-2 loss on Tuesday.
Rockies got things moving in the first inning, when Gavin Elmore singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the first inning, Cubs tied things up at two. Troy Stickler doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
Rockies pulled away for good with one run in the second inning. In the second Michael Buck drew a walk, scoring one run.
Rockies scored eight runs in the fifth inning. The offensive firepower by the Rockies was led by Derek Bowles, Elmore, J.D. Parker, Reed Emerson, Justin Reese, and Buck, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Carson Tapley led the Rockies to victory on the mound. He went two and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on five hits, striking out four and walking zero. Emerson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Trevor Sanders took the loss for Cubs. He went four innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out nine.
Elmore started the game for Rockies. He went one-third of an inning, allowing one run on zero hits and walking zero.
