Historic Building in Grundy County Burns to the Ground on Saturday

A building built in 1908 in the Grundy County town of Coalmont burned to the ground on Saturday. Sam’s Place was a historical family restaurant and general store in Coalmont. It was also known as a business called Creighton and Son’s.

This was the third time in four months the building was set on fire. The TBI was investigating fires that took place on April 8 and 9.

Emergency crews responded to the blaze around 5 Saturday morning. No one was injured.

The Tennessee Historical Commission had designated the building as a historical site.
