Hawkins Asphalt based in Bedford County made a proposal to the Coffee County planning commission on Tuesday for a zoning change.
The proposal is to change the zoning on a portion of the 1,000 acre Waterson Farm in Beechgrove. The rezoning would allow a rock quarry to be built on about 1/3 of the land.
After hearing numerous statements from those in attendance, the planning commission voted down the proposal by a vote of 4-3 to finish up the 3 hour meeting.
Chairman Steve Cunningham told the large crowd, this only the start and can be brought up again and can be proposed the entire county commission.
On Target News will continue to follow this story and report any updates.
