Coffee County’s Lady Raiders jumped to a 19-10 lead at the end of the first quarter on Tuesday night and cruised to a 74-33 win over Columbia. At halftime, the Lady Raiders took a 39-18 advantage into the dressing room and put away the Lady Lions in the second half with the mercy rule enforced in the fourth quarter.
Eleven Coffee County players scored on the night, led by Olivia Vinson with 24 points. She was named the Rooster 101.5/Dr Jay Trussler Player of the Game. Natalie Barnes added 15 as she had five 3-pointers on the night. Channah Gannon, coming off ankle surgery, got her first start in about two months and scored 8 points.
The Lady Raiders improved to 21-3 overall and 5-0 in District 9-AAAA play.
In the boys’ game, Coffee County was able to grab the lead after the first, 13-9, and never looked back as they put away Columbia 58-44.
Senior Jackson Shemwell had another good night, leading the Raiders with 18 points. Jayden Carter added good rebounding, solid defense, and 10 points. Shemwell and Carter were named Co-Rooster 101.5/Dr Jay Trussler Players of the Game. Cooper Reed added 8 points, and Brady Wright chipped in with 6.
The Raiders improved to 12-10 overall and 4-1 in district play.
