Lawmakers want Free Meals for Students in Tennessee

Two republican Tennessee lawmakers are sponsoring legislation to create free meals for students.

The bill calls on each Tennessee school board to create a breakfast and lunch program that provides meals for free to students. The state would reimburse the school districts after each district uses up federal funds under the National School Lunch Act and Child Nutrition Act.

If the bill is passed, the service would go into effect for the 2023-2024 school year and each year after.
