Chris Kirk, who fired his best PGA Tour round in eight months during Thursday’s opening round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic with a 67, went two shots better on Friday, and jumped ahead of the pack in spectacular style, holing out on consecutive holes to leapfrog a thick herd at Detroit Golf Club.
By day’s end, Kirk was in a tie for the lead at 12 under par with Webb Simpson, who made a late charge to pull even heading into the weekend.
