Powerful Winds and Storms Hit the area

Intense storms powered through the area Thursday night through around midday Friday.

Strong winds downed trees and power lines that forced thousands of residents to lose electricity for long periods of time in portions of Middle Tennessee on Friday. 

The National Weather Service reports that wind speeds at regional airports reached 51mph in Tullahoma, 58 in McMinnville and Shelbyville, and 60mph in Smyrna.

Friday’s wind gusts broke five three-phase poles in Bedford County.
