Following the TSSAA’s decision to delay voting on contingency plans for fall sports, reactions vary among coaches and ADs contacted by OnTargetSports.
The Board of Control on Wednesday did not vote on contingency options, instead taking a recommendation from Executive Director Bernard Childress that the body delay on a decision while legal teams from the TSSAA and Governor’s office pour over data in an attempt to find a way forward to full sports schedules for football and girls soccer.
Don Rhoton, Athletics Director for Franklin County High School, commented that “I think we should have a shortened season plan in place now in order for schools to make plans. Then, if we were fortunate enough to be able to have a full season, it would be fairly simple to go back to that plan.”
“I just kind of feel like we’re in the same boat we’ve been in,” Fulton football coach Rob Black said. “We have a whole lot of questions but not a whole lot of answers. I’d like to at least know if we are going to do this and have a plan.”
Some were more hopeful than others as they noted a sign of hope that Tennessee could return to a “normal” regular season.
After the meeting, Childress said there was no time frame for a decision – whether it be contingency plans or an agreement with Lee’s office.
“We are hoping for the best and planning for the worse,” Childress said.
