Holiday employment that ended at the start of the new year is one of the leading factors that caused an increase in county unemployment rates across Tennessee in January 2024. While statewide unemployment numbers are adjusted to consider the impacts of seasonal labor, county unemployment rates are not adjusted.
Ninety-three of Tennessee’s 95 counties experienced an uptick in unemployment during January.
Bedford and Coffee Counties were at 3.0% in December, and both went up to 3.4 in January. Franklin County rose from 3.2 to 3.6. Grundy County’s unemployment rate went up from 3.6% in December to 4.4% in January. Lincoln County went up from 2.8 to 3.2. Moore County jumped from 2.2% to 2.7%, and Warren County’s unemployment rate rose from 3.3% in December to 3.7% in January.
