On Target News has a follow-up to a story we brought you earlier this week. On Sunday, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting incident near the Coffee/Franklin County line in Hillsboro.
According to arrest warrants, upon arrival and following an initial investigation, it was determined that 37-year-old Roy Allen Owens, Jr of Pelham, TN, had shot into another vehicle.
It began with an encounter at a local business, leading vehicles to follow each other. That is when Owens allegedly brake-checked the victim’s car, resulting in an accident.
The warrant states that to avoid a greater conflict with Owens, the victim drove around Owens and attempted to drive away. Then, Owens took his handgun and fired eight shots at the vehicle, striking six times with two rounds, striking the victim’s back. The victim drove until he pulled into a residence seeking assistance.
According to the warrants, Owens is known to the victim and was identified by the victim’s girlfriend, who was in the vehicle during the incident.
Owens was charged with reckless endangerment and two counts of aggravated assault.
On Target News was told on Sunday the victim was expected to be released from the hospital after receiving treatment. The victim’s name was not released.
