Tullahoma Mayor Ray Knowis announces the formation of a study committee to further discuss the merits of establishing the Community Council for Diversity and Inclusion, proposed by Alderman Rupa Blackwell, as either an agency of the City or as an independent, non-profit organization. The study committee is tasked with meeting to consider the benefits and limitations of each type of agency and form a consolidated recommendation that will be presented to the full Board of Mayor and Alderman at their next meeting, scheduled for Monday, December 14, 2020.
The Mayor’s Study Committee will consist of 7-members appointed by Mayor Knowis and will be chaired by Mayor Pro Tem, Dr. Jimmy Blanks. The other members include: Alderman Daniel Berry, Alderman Rupa Blackwell, Susan Harris, Tisha Fritz, Lynn Sebourn, Pastor Elmore Torbert, Jr.
The Committee will hold its study meeting, open to the public, on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Tullahoma Municipal Building, 2nd Floor, City Board Room. The meeting is open to all members of the public to attend; however, public comments will be limited to the subject of the meeting, being the merits of the proposed committee being formed as a city agency or as an independent, non-profit agency. Comments made during the meeting must be no more than 2 minutes per individual and the total time available for public comments may be limited. Members of the public are encouraged to submit written comments in advance so that the committee members may review those comments prior to their discussion on December 2nd. All comments received will be forwarded to the study committee.
