In the opening game of the TSSAA Class-4A state softball tournament Coffee County took on Springfield.
The Lady Yellow Jackets got on the board in the first inning with 2 outs when Lauren Nicholson hit a solo homer.
The Lady Raiders tied the game in the top of the second inning. Senior Jada Bowen, who was named the Sir Pizza Player of the Game just missed a homerun, but doubled high off the 10-foot tall fence, scoring Paisley Campbell.
Springfield pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth. Elaina Goodfred hit a 2-run homer to centerfield.
Brianna Asmondy picked up the win in the circle. She allowed three hits and one run and struck out eight.
Kaitlyn Davis took the difficult loss for Coffee County. The junior righthander surrendered four runs, three were earned. The Yellow Jackets only manage on five hits against Davis as she had three strikeouts and walked none.
Channah Gannon and Bowen each had a double, and sisters Haidyn Paisley Campbell added singles for the Lady Raiders.
Coffee County will take on Stewarts Creek at 11:30 AM on Wednesday morning at Starplex Field #2. The winner will play again at 5:30 PM against the loser of Wilson Central and Clarksville at Starplex Field #4.
