Coffee County Baseball picks up win over Shelbyville to advance in District Tournament

Coffee County Red Raiders snatched the lead late in the game in a 9-6 victory over Shelbyville Golden Eagles on Saturday and Sunday. Coffee County Red Raiders trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jacob Holder homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs. 

Holder led Coffee County Red Raiders to victory by driving in five runs. Holder went 2-for-3 at the plate. Holder drove in runs on a single in the third, a home run in the fifth, and a in the sixth. 

Coffee County Red Raiders fired up the offense in the first inning. Nolan Jernigan drove in one when Jernigan singled. 

In the top of the fourth inning, Shelbyville Golden Eagles tied things up at three. Shelbyville scored one run when Aiden Edwards singled.

Coffee County Red Raiders tallied three runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by Coffee County was led by Jernigan and Holder, all driving in runs in the frame. 

Brady Nugent earned the win for Coffee County. The righthander allowed four hits and three runs over two innings, striking out one. Aiden Robertson, Carter Mckenzie, and Charlie Pierce all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory. Mckenzie recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Coffee County. 

Caden Thomas took the loss for Shelbyville. The hurler lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out two. 

Edwards started the game for Shelbyville. Edwards went four innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out five and walking one Braden Brown started the game for Coffee County. The pitcher surrendered one run on four hits over three innings, striking out two 

Coffee County Red Raiders had nine hits in the game. Jernigan and Holder each racked up multiple hits for Coffee County. Jernigan went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Red Raiders in hits. 

Shelbyville totaled 11 hits in the game. Edwards, Hunter Wilhelm, Aj Parker, and Brady O’Neal all managed multiple hits for Shelbyville Central. Edwards led Shelbyville with three hits in five at bats. 

Holder and Wyatt Nugent was named Crazy Daises Players of the Game 

Coffee County is currently 20-10 on the year. this is the first 20 win season since 2010, when Coffee County baseball won 26 games. 

Coffee County Red Raiders advances in the District 8-AAA Tournament as Shelbyville’s season ended. The Raiders will play at 6:30pm Monday against the winner of 4pm game between Tullahoma and Columbia Central.
