Election for New Coffee County Mayor is August 1

After the untimely death of Coffee County Mayor Judd Matheny, a lot of talk has been about who will serve or be elected to serve out his term. Matheny’s would have expired on September 1, 2026.

Republican and Democratic parties plan on caucusing for candidates for the Coffee County Mayor position. An independent candidate will have to qualify by June 7. The election will be held on August 1.

Currently, Dennis Hunt is serving as interim Mayor. He was Mayor Pro tem when Matheny passed away.

The Republican caucus is planned for May 23, and the Democratic caucus date has not been determined.
