Crash on Monteagle Mountain Shut Down I-24 on Wednesday Morning

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has charged 60-year-old Thomas Carl Storch of Texas after a multi-vehicle accident on I-24 in Grundy County Wednesday morning. The crash occurred around 6 AM and caused traffic to be stopped on the east and west sides of the mountain for a period of time near mile marker 132.

The THP’s report says Storch of Texas veered off the roadway in his tractor-trailer carrying some large equipment tires and overturned.

One of the tires became loose from the rig and hit two vehicles, and a second tire hit a third.

The THP says Storch was the only person in the crash who was injured, and they have charged him with reckless driving, failure to exercise due care, and failure to maintain lane.

Ikard Towing assisted in the cleanup of the wreckage.
